Cool! I like the flexibility of drive trains! If you purchase, please share pictures!
I talked it over with the better half… I’m going to go in on May 9th or so, take a closer look at it (it’s non-spec, and I vetted all the spec parts…) and vet those parts. I was in a hurry yesterday & I should have taken a handful of photos so I could check whether it was a good build or not. I’m mostly focusing on the headset, bottom bracket and cranks on the next look.
From what I could tell, I get the feeling they stripped a Raleigh Talus to upgrade parts on that bike (XTR/??? brakes) so the spec parts are Shimano Deore 10sp (2012) and Shimano 505 Hydraulic w/ SMRT76 disk brake rotor, which makes it a better bike than the standard Avid BB7/Deore 9sp that comes with the OEM Ogre. When I took it for a spin I was wow’d by how much better it was than a friend’s Avid BB7’s (which were worn in at the time, thus as good as they were going to get). Not sure I could flip the bike, but it’d be pretty freakin’ close. List price was $1300 which was better than the $1500 MSRP too.
Oh, and the handling was WAY better than the Fargo.

Thanks. I may do a sub-zero 200k ride in a month, and though I usually rode on slicks in Winter, I decided to use Marathon’s for that specific purpose. Thank you for rhe quick response and I hope you have fun riding in those conditions!
Bring zip ties and appropriate cutters, one per spoke. In a pinch you can do this.

What kind of tires are you using Kris?
This was a goddamn failure as far as a ride goes. Vittoria Rubino Pro III Front, Schwalbe Marathon Plus rear, 700x28 both tires. I had much more success on my Clement Crusade 700x33 PDX tires @ 45psi. I also busted my SSCX rim going over a curb with said 45 psi tires though. Apparently the Steamroller has clearance for 700x35C tires, so if I pull off the fenders I *might* be able to fit them on. However, that won’t solve the problem of being massively over geared for the conditions… right now a 63” gear is about the sweet spot for riding.

Cool!
Thanks dude, I hope you like the last photo with me in it. SS/Fixed was the only way you could get around today, anything with gears ended up getting completely iced up and reduced to a SS anyway. My buddy Yohannes posted a photo of his cassette, but here’s one I prepared earlier.
