Sarah Getting Healthy: How to lose weight in... →
sarahgettinghealthy:
One of the most common questions I got goes something like this:
Hi! I’m in college just like you and I’m trying to lose weight but it’s hard. How do you stay healthy in college?
I actually believe that college is one of the best and easiest places for someone to lose weight. That being…

highheelsandtwowheels:
Charleston has a high bike theft rate. We are asked to register our bikes with the city and sometimes they are retrieved, but most times you’ll see a homeless man riding your pink cruiser down King Street. In an effort to fix this problem, police set up a “bait bike” in the bad parts of…

Car v. bike
This morning, the guy behind me got taken out by a car rolling through a pedestrian crossing on a right-on-red (at an intersection marked “no right on red.”). He and I caught the same bus to work this morning, and I’ve seen him a few times but don’t really know him. At the time I was waiting for him to cross the intersection so I would have someone to chat to when he got...

outoftheimmensity asked: The is Chris, Awesome post! Glad to see that there are other folks throwing down good miles regardless of the weather!
STPTS: The white whale.
For two years now, I’ve been thwarted in my 2 day quest for STPTS (an out-and-back trip from Seattle to Portland and back). Two years ago it was terrible weather conditions and an intervention from “friends”. Last year it was another intervention, this time from the girlfriend.
I’m not going to lie. It really cuts me down that I haven’t been able to do it. So this...

Why working where I do is awesome...
#72: The salad bar has a maximum dollar value of $7.70 assigned to it, despite the fact we pay for food by weight. This means that I consistently eat $14-$18 worth of salad and max it out every single day.
I guess they didn’t think of long distance cyclists when they set that maximum value.
Something you coasting dirtbags never have to...
#43: getting sideways after hitting a rut, getting your shoelace caught in your pedal and your bike tearing it clean off your shoe because you’re doing 22 mph at the time.
Also, shoe laces are $1.43 at Fred Meyer.

Chris P: "Hey, you guys will like this. It's an app that monitors QoS." (whether a service is running properly, or if it's suffering an outage)
Entire team: "oooo..." *admires shiny application*
Chris P: "And it uses toast notifications to tell if there's been a change in QoS numbers.... changes that little icon there."
Eric M, tester on my team: "So... what if
Chris P: *awkward silence* "Crap."
Entire team: *all laughing*
Eric M: "So we're ok! No 2am calls for us!"

I’m about to walk into a bike shop with my tax refund and tell them to just give me something. I always hesitate so long on big purchases that I usually just end up dropping too much money on my lunch break because I want the indecision to be over. I went to the local bike shop today and stared at…
