Around the world on 100cc Honda Supercubs →
Two people riding 100cc modernized Honda Super Cubs around the world. For those less familiar with the Honda Super Cub, it is the most successful selling motorcycle worldwide with over 60 million sold since 1958 (still in production today). You can find them in practically every market, they get 100 mpg (although they only have a 1 gal fuel tank), you can crash them, bash them, use cooking...

ecaloshay replied to your post: Phones, as explained to my Dad (motorcycle enthusiast)
I had to look up ‘farkle’. I assumed ‘accessories’. Apparently it is also an addictive dice game.
Tommy Williams had to do the same thing, so perhaps an explanation is in order.
The word is generally accepted to mean a combination of “function” and “sparkle”, hence, farkle....
Phones, as explained to my Dad (motorcycle...
Hi Dad, Coralee told me you were looking for a smart phone. Here’s my assessment of the 4 major players:
Blackberry - It’s like owning a Hyosung. Inherent design flaws, cheap, and designed to be thrown away. Friends don’t let friends ride a Hyosung. Android - It’s like owning a secondhand, restored CB500. It seems like a good idea at the time. It’s cheap. You get...

I haven’t done #7 yet. And I almost always ride without eye protection.

What would be my dream commuter bike?
As always, around this time I get a bike inspection (as close to January 26 as I can, aka Australia Day), and start thinking which bike I would go for or build if the frame comes back cracked.
With the latest snowfall, discussions with Bill (who had treatment for an ACL injury) and developments in technology, I’ve been wondering what frames I would build up for the “perfect”...

FUCK. THAT.
Yeah, Garmin Edge 800’s don’t work so well when they’re a solid chunk of ice. OTOH, the start/stop button still works pretty damn well.

Thanks. I may do a sub-zero 200k ride in a month, and though I usually rode on slicks in Winter, I decided to use Marathon’s for that specific purpose. Thank you for rhe quick response and I hope you have fun riding in those conditions!
Bring zip ties and appropriate cutters, one per spoke. In a pinch you...

What kind of tires are you using Kris?
This was a goddamn failure as far as a ride goes. Vittoria Rubino Pro III Front, Schwalbe Marathon Plus rear, 700x28 both tires. I had much more success on my Clement Crusade 700x33 PDX tires @ 45psi. I also busted my SSCX rim going over a curb with said 45 psi tires though. Apparently the...

Worst commute in a long time
3+ hours to get home in 27ºF/-2.8ºC weather. Why? I was riding with Alex, who is… not in the best shape. On top of that, Alex had his studded tires on, and like most people who aren’t used to studded tires, believed that it would automagically help him forge a path of least resistance over whatever surface we were riding on. Newsflash to anyone thinking of trying studded tires: They...

that is a calm sexy color scheme.
It makes me happy. I am not a fan of white bar tape, but I bought replacement white bar tape because I don’t want to mess with the color scheme.

I think we have the same fender!
SKS X3 clip on fender. It’s technically a MTB fender. Terrible for the person behind you, but I’ve used this one for 3 years now without it failing on me. The clip is rock solid and if you cinch down the bolt that holds the fender in place, it never moves. This...
The interwebz at work is choked up and all...
Because everyone else is remote accessing the servers instead of actually coming to work. Keep in mind that I actually came to work, and I live in Seattle (work in Redmond), and my lazy as shit co-workers that live a few streets over are working from home because they don’t want to come to work.
Note: Admittedly, one of them cannot get out of his driveway, which is where I draw the line at...

Hey, I’ve done my time in harsh winters! But no more. I still laugh when people say ‘It’s cold out!’ here. It’s cold in the shade in the forest and at elevation. Ah, who am I kidding?! Chilly is a better word :) Great shots, K. Hope you didn’t hurty.
It’s just my insane envy for your beautiful...

Cool!
Thanks dude, I hope you like the last photo with me in it. SS/Fixed was the only way you could get around today, anything with gears ended up getting completely iced up and reduced to a SS anyway. My buddy Yohannes posted a photo of his cassette, but here’s one I prepared earlier.
Snow is forecasted
Currently 6:06am, 33F, overcast, 70% chance of snow. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to say that’s going to stop me from heading out right now. I missed Stinky Spoke and I’m still a little sad about that, so this is somewhat of a consolation prize.
On the other hand, Westside Story wasn’t bad at all, the fancy restaurant LK and I went to for our two year anniversary...

It’s nice to see a bike blog that covers some Seattle riding. Unlike me, he takes awesome photos.
